Bharatpur, Fatehpur sikri, Deeg Jal Mahal |
The Keoladeo National Park or Keoladeo
Ghana National Park formerly known
as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in
Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India is a famous
avifauna sanctuary that plays host
to thousands of birds especially during
the winter season. Over 230 species
of birds are known to have made the
National Park their home. It is also
a major tourist centre with scores
of ornithologists arriving here in
the hibernal season. It was declared
a protected sanctuary in 1971. It
is also a declared World Heritage
Site.
Fatehpur Sikri is a city board in
Agra district in the state of Uttar
Pradesh, India. The city was founded
in 1569 by the Mughal emperor Akbar,
and served as the capital of the Mughal
Empire from 1571 to 1585. After his
military victories over Chittor and
Ranthambore, Akbar decided to shift
his capital from Agra to a new location
23 miles (37 km) W.S.W on the Sikri
ridge, to honor the Sufi saint Salim
Chishti. Here he commenced the construction
of a planned walled city which took
the next fifteen years in planning
and construction of a series of royal
palaces, harem, courts, a mosque,
private quarters and other utility
buildings.He named the city, Fatehabad,
with Fateh, a word of Arabic origin
in Persian, meaning "victorious."
it was later called Fatehpur Sikri.
It is at Fatehpur Sikri that the legends
of Akbar and his famed courtiers,
the nine jewels or Navaratnas, were
born.Fatehpur Sikri is one of the
best preserved collections of Indian
Mughal architecture in India.World
Heritage Site.
Jal Mahal Deeg was the first capital of the Jat state of Bharatpur, when Badan Singh was proclaimed its ruler in 1722. In 1730, Maharaja Suraj Mal erected the strong fortress of Deeg. After Suraj Mal moved the capital to Bharatpur, Deeg became the second capital of the rulers of Bharatpur princely state. It is known for its number of forts, palaces, gardens and fountains. |
