Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary |
TIPESHWAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Tipeshwar wildlife sanctuary in Yavatmal district is a secluded national park in Maharashtra. The tipeshwar forest allows you to explore large varieties of wildlife species!
This sanctuary is located in Pandarkawada region of Yavatmal district that covers an area of 148.63 sq.km. Particularly, the sanctuary lies amidst the Patanbori and Parwa Ranges of the Pandarkawad Forest Division. This sanctuary is popular known for its hilly-undulating terrain and wildlife diversity. The Tipeshwar wildlife sanctuary derives its name from the ‘Goddess Tipai’ situated near the Tipeshwar village in the sanctuary region.
This sanctuary is not known to many people hence less number of people visit Tipeshwar national park. Various villages are situated amidst the sanctuary region and local people depend on the forest for their daily activities. As sanctuary is situated in a very remote region of Maharashtra, it has a rich wildlife and bio-diversity.
Rivers like Krishna, Purna, Bhima and Tapti irrigates the sanctuary from all sides. Due to abundant water from all these rivers, it is also called as Green Oasis (watering place) of the Southern Maharashtra. The temperature of the region mostly remains pleasant all year round. The tipeshwar wildlife sanctuary area is actually a basalt area formed by the explosion of lava a century back. This region is highly appreciated for the variety of flora like herbs, grasses, bamboo forests and animal life.
This sanctuary is surrounded by many popular wildlife reserves like Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary, Bhamragarh Wildlife Reserve, Nagzira National Forest, Navegaon National Park, Bor Wildlife Sanctuary, Pench National Park and Painganga National Park. Therefore, tigers from these sanctuaries usually enter inside the Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary.
This forest acts as a home to 29 species of mammals, 160 species of birds and 26 species of reptiles. Out of 26 species of reptiles, 6 falls under endangered category. |
