hill fort is indeed jewel in all the

located in the district of Ahmednagar
and is located about 4255 feet above
sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain
range surrounded by great mountains
of Kulang, Alang, Kalsubai, Katarabai,
Ajoba and Ghanchakkar. Geographically
Ratangad is at the banks of Bhandardara
lake of Ahmednagar district. With
views of lake and highest mountains

in time. At the base of this fort
is ancient Lord Shiva (Amurteshwar)
temple. About 1000 years old temple
of Lord Shiva, the Amruteshwar Temple
at Ratanwadi, is an absolute paragon
of high class architecture

with water throughout the year and
trekkers use them as water source.

fortification left, one can see Rani
mahal here. From the southern side
on can see Katrabai and Ajoba fort
very close
Harishchandragad -
Harishchandragad is a beautiful hill
fort in the Ahmednagar district of
India. Its history is linked with
that of Malshej Ghat, kothale village
and it has played a major role in
guarding and controlling the surrounding
region. Its a very popular trekking
destination. The fort mountain along
with, TOLAR KHIND, MALSHEJ GHAT offers
a lot for trekkers. The main attraction
here is the KONKAN KADA which offers
a spectacular view of Konkan. During
the rainy season you'd be walking
in the clouds on this fort.
1. KEDARESHWAR CAVE - This temple
is marvelous example of the fine art
of carving sculptures out of stones
that prevailed in ancient India. The
river Mangal Ganga is said to originate
from one of the tanks located close
to the temple.
2. KONKAN KADA - A huge cliff at Harishchandragad
which offers spectacular view of Konkan
and also the sunset.
3. OTHER CAVES - There are many caves
on this fort.
4. KEDARESHWAR CAVE: In this cave
there is a Shivlinga which is surrounded
by ice cold water. During rainy season
this cave is not accessible as there's
lot of water in the surrounding area.
5. TARAMATI PEAK: Also known as Taramanchi.
This is the topmost point on the fort.
It is the 2nd highest peak in Maharashtra.
Leopards are seen in the forests beyond
this peak. From here we can have a
glimpse of the whole range of Naneghat
and the forts near Murbad. |
