Rajgad |
Rajgad (literally meaning Royal Fort)
is one of the forts in the Pune district
of Maharashtra state in India. The
fort is 1318 meters above sea level.
Formerly known as Murumdev, it was
capital of the Maratha Empire during
the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
for almost 26 years, after which he
moved the capital to Raigad Fort.
Treasure found at an adjacent fort
was used to fortify this hill. The
diameter of the fort at the base is
40 km making it difficult for anybody
to lay siege to it, adding to its
strategic value.

Throughout the year from
January - December you can visit but July - March is Best season. The way to Rajgad is via NASRAPUR Phata
which is approximately 15 - 20 Kms from
Katraj Tunnel. There is two base villages
for this fort [Gunjawane and Pali] |
| How to Reach |
By
road: From Gunjawane
the trek is a little bit tough as it
leads to the Chor Darwaja.
Inexperienced trekkers should go via
Pali as this trek is not that difficult
as compared to the trek via Gunjawane.
There’s a way which goes to
Torna along the ridges of Sahyadri Mountains
from Rajgad
